IRMO, S.C. — Irmo voters will help seat four new members on the Lexington-Richland School District Five Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in a race with seven candidates and not a single incumbent.
The board is split by the county line that runs through the district. On the Lexington County side, the ballot lists Kim Gilbert and Blake Justice along with Karena Phelps and Jennifer Rice. Richland County side voters choose among Terence Rickenbacker, Michael Reeves and Beth LoPresti.
Seven trustees govern District Five. Four live in and are elected by the Lexington County portion, and three must live in the Richland County portion and are elected by voters there. Each serves a four-year term, and every November the board picks its chairman, vice chairman and secretary.
The winners will help oversee a district that covers 196 square miles and runs 13 elementary schools, five middle schools and four high schools. Work from the $240 million bond voters approved in 2024 is still underway, including a new Dutch Fork elementary school.
The board normally meets on the second and fourth Mondays of each month during the school year at 7 p.m. in a district school.
Lexington County voters can look up their sample ballot and polling place through MyscVOTES. The county Registration and Election office is at 605 West Main Street, Suite C, in Lexington.
