IRMO, S.C. — Dutch Fork Elementary in Irmo is getting a new building. Lexington-Richland School District Five turned the first dirt Friday, Oct. 30, on the replacement campus for the environmental sciences academy.
The new campus will rise at 1709 Hollingshed Road. Friday ceremony took place next door at Hope Lutheran Church, 1400 Kennerly Road, with board members, Principal Rebecca Dilley and Superintendent Akil E. Ross Sr. on hand.
Money for the project comes from the bond referendum district voters approved in 2024. The district says the move moves children and teachers out of the oldest building it still uses every day, and away from the widening of Broad River Road.
When the new school opens, the current campus at 7900 Broad River Road will become the Richlex Education Center, housing district programs including the FIVE virtual learning program, Adult Education and the Academy For Success.
