NEWBERRY, S.C. — Newberry’s Veterans Day Parade returns Saturday, November 7, stepping off at 10 a.m. along Main Street from Calhoun Street to Nance Street, with lineup set for 9 a.m. as downtown streets close for the route.
A planning group that includes city officials, area American Legion chapters, and the county veterans office says roughly 70 units are expected. Mayor Foster Senn said spectators can expect Legion posts from Newberry, Chapin and Clinton, military vehicles, the S.C. National Guard, cadet units from Newberry High and Mid-Carolina High, scouts, fire and police units, and a combined Newberry College and high school marching band.
A veteran with two decades spanning the Army and Navy will serve as grand marshal. After the route ends, the combined band is set to play in Memorial Park, and Samsung will again host a veterans meal from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1856 Wilson Road in Newberry, offering food for two people in each vehicle.
That same Wilson Road site is home to Newberry County Veterans Affairs, which helps veterans, widows, and survivors pursue federal and state benefits, file claims, and enroll for care at a VA hospital. The office lists its street address as 1856 Wilson Road and takes mail at P.O. Box 217 in Newberry, with weekday hours.
Legion commanders say the parade and meal give neighbors a chance to thank the men and women who served, not only around Veterans Day but throughout the year.
