SUNSET, S.C. — An 84-year-old driver from Irmo died Friday night, Oct. 30, after a car ran off SC 11 near Sunset in Pickens County, S.C., and rolled over, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said the 2012 Lexus was traveling south on SC 11 close to its junction with Roy F. Jones Highway when it drifted over the center line. The car left the left shoulder, struck an embankment and flipped.
The driver was pronounced dead on scene. The Pickens County Coroner identified the Irmo resident on Saturday.
A passenger in the car was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital and remained in critical condition, officials said.
The Highway Patrol is investigating what caused the car to cross the line. Troopers had not released further details by Saturday.
