Friday’s region openers around Lexington County went against Chapin and Lexington and in favor of the two teams that arrived still unbeaten in region play.
River Bluff beat Chapin 34-25 in the first Region 4-5A game for both. Chapin is 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the region. River Bluff is 6-1 and 1-0. Darius Carter scored twice on long plays, taking a kickoff back 98 yards and later catching a 71-yard pass for another touchdown. Chapin scored on two passes from Tyler Black, on a 27-yard kick by Beckham Diimmler, and once more out of a field-goal formation that was not kicked. River Bluff’s deciding score came in the fourth quarter, a 30-yard throw from Brayden Moore to Brady Barrineau.
Dutch Fork, the Irmo school, beat Lexington 28-7 and is 6-0, 1-0 in region. Lexington falls to 4-3. Quintin Wilson and Jaxon Knotts each ran for a pair of touchdowns. Knotts was 15 of 27 through the air for 243 yards and was picked off twice. Lexington’s only score was a 2-yard run by Easton Crocker. K.J. Dupree accounted for two of Dutch Fork’s three interceptions.
Elsewhere on the same Saturday list, Camden beat Gilbert 48-33, and Camden is 2-0 in region play. Irmo, listed at 3-3, lost to North Augusta 25-16.
Dutch Fork’s next region game is Friday at Chapin. Lexington is at White Knoll that night. River Bluff plays at Dutch Fork on Oct. 16.
