Public Comment Period Open for I-26 Bridge Project
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is requesting public feedback regarding a proposed interstate bridge repair project in Lexington County. The initiative focuses on the repair and rehabilitation of the Interstate 26 bridge, which spans the Southern Railroad southeast of Augusta Road.
The primary goal of this project is to restore the bridge’s structural integrity and its capacity to carry loads. SCDOT anticipates that the work will commence in the second quarter of 2027 and will take approximately four months to complete. Repairs are planned to occur either during regular traffic hours or through nighttime lane closures, with no detours expected.
