Clemson Men’s Tennis Excels at ITA All-American Championships
Four Clemson Tigers men’s tennis players have qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships following their strong performances at the ITA All-American Championships. The tournament, held from September 19-27 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, saw Clemson achieve the most wins of any team with an overall record of 36-10. The Tigers also earned six ranked singles victories and 10 ranked doubles victories.
Viktor Markov reached the semifinals in the singles draw, securing his spot in the NCAA Individual Singles Championship. Markov, a freshman, also ended the singles run of Indiana redshirt senior Sam Landau with a 6-4, 7-6 (1) victory in the round of 16.
In doubles, Viktor Markov and Noa Vukadin qualified for the NCAA Individual Doubles Championship. They defeated five ranked opponents on their way to the tournament semifinals, including the No. 6-ranked pairing from TCU and the No. 20-ranked pairing from Virginia. Matisse Farzam and Tiago Pires also qualified for the NCAA Individual Doubles Championship after battling through the consolation bracket. This pairing earned six ranked wins during the tournament, including victories over the No. 29- and No. 30-ranked pairs nationally.
Clemson had three doubles pairings reach the main draw of the tournament, which was more than any other school. Noa Vukadin delivered a solid performance, defeating three ranked opponents and advancing to the consolation quarterfinals with a 6-2 overall record. Matisse Farzam also secured a ranked win during qualifying, defeating No. 73 Guilleme from Wake Forest with a score of 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3.
The Tigers are scheduled to compete next in the Columbus Challenger and M15 ITF Futures in Ann Arbor, MI.
