LEXINGTON, S.C. — Challengers Chris Shealy and Dana Homesley led the Lexington County School District One board race in unofficial returns, while board secretary Chris Rice kept a seat among three at-large openings.
Shealy topped the field with 16,608 votes, or about 17.19 percent of ballots counted. Homesley followed with 15,004 votes (15.53 percent), and Rice tallied 14,873 votes (15.39 percent), according to unofficial figures tied to the South Carolina Election Commission.
Shelton Yonce, appointed in June to finish an unexpired term, finished fourth with 13,840 votes (14.32 percent). Crystal Baker, Katie McCown, Joyce Jordan and Jack Lundeen trailed further back, and write-ins accounted for a small share of the ballots.
Eight candidates sought the three District One seats that oversee schools across central Lexington County. The figures remain unofficial until county and state canvassing is finished.
District One is the county largest school system, and the new board lineup will take shape once certification is complete.
