Columbia, SC – The University of South Carolina (USC) Board of Trustees has officially approved a significant renovation plan for the Williams-Brice Stadium, with an estimated cost of just under $350 million. This decision was made on May 22, 2025, and comes as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the facilities and improve the overall experience for fans and athletes.
This upcoming Phase II renovation follows the Phase I improvements to the westside stands, which were unveiled in November 2024. The focus of the new renovations is to maximize premium spaces within the stadium, specifically targeting areas for luxury boxes and club sections located in the west stands.
Several upgrades are planned for the stadium, emphasizing enhancements that will foster a more enjoyable environment for attendees. Among these updates are the construction of a new indoor club space underneath the north stands, aimed at benefiting the student section. Additionally, two new videoboards will be installed on the south stands, offering better visibility for fans during games.
Beyond the fan experience, the renovations will also address operational issues within the stadium. Plans include relocating the visiting team’s locker room and creating a dedicated loading dock to facilitate easier access for events and game-day preparations. Other improvements will include an increased number of bathrooms, modifications to existing concession stands, and an overall enhancement of the concourse areas within the stadium.
The renovations will also cater to the USC football program by enhancing locker room and training facilities, ensuring that the amenities provided meet the needs of athletes and improve their training environment.
USC Board of Trustees Chair Thad Westbrook expressed that the primary goal of these renovations is not only to enhance the fan experience but also to boost revenues generated by the athletic programs. To help achieve this vision, the architectural design firm Populous has been selected to lead the redesign efforts for the stadium.
In an effort to further enrich the fan experience while maximizing revenue, USC entered a partnership with Legends, a global company specializing in premium experiences. Their collaboration is expected to bring innovative ideas into play for the stadium’s enhancements.
The construction phase will be contracted to Contract Construction located in Irmo, South Carolina, and Manhattan Construction Company based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Manhattan Construction has a robust track record of working on major sports facilities, including the Globe Life Field and AT&T Stadium, which aligns with the ambitious plans for Williams-Brice Stadium.
Although construction is anticipated to commence after the conclusion of the 2025 football season, expected in December, there are procedural steps remaining. A follow-up approval is required from the State of South Carolina Legislature’s Joint Bond Review Committee as well as from the State Fiscal Accountability Authority, scheduled for August 2025.
The intended outcomes of this renovation project include the creation of additional premium seating, upgrades to current facilities, and a more enriched game-day experience for all fans attending events at Williams-Brice Stadium. USC plans to share additional updates regarding the finalized renovation concepts over the coming months as the project progresses.
