A Year in Review

It has been a remarkable year for the Gamecock track team. Notably, Coach Mike Sergent has been recognized with the prestigious USTFCCCA Southeast Region Men’s Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year honor. Their hard work led the Gamecock women to finish tied for 18th and the men to tie for 21st at the recent NCAA Indoor Championship.

Highlighting individual achievements, CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart made history by becoming the first Gamecock duo to score in the men’s shot put at the same NCAA Indoor Championship. On the women’s side, the team scored 12 points, led by JaMeesia Ford, who clinched a bronze in the 200m, and Cheyla Scott, who took fifth in the high jump.

What’s Next?

As the outdoor season unfolds, athletes are gearing up for the NCAA East Regional, set to take place in Jacksonville, Florida, eventually leading to the NCAA Outdoor Championship in Eugene, Oregon. To qualify for this prestigious event, individuals must rank in the Top 48, and relays in the Top 24. It’s an exhilarating path ahead!

Following Saturday’s festivities, the Gamecocks will next compete at the Raleigh Relays, running from March 27 to March 29, 2025. With such an action-packed schedule, it’s a thrilling time to be a fan of South Carolina Track & Field!
