Exciting Changes in Lexington: New Leadership at The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment!
Hey there, Lexington! It’s time to share some fantastic news that’s going to make waves in our community. The Unumb Center for Neurodevelopment has just welcomed a new executive director into its family! Say hello to Jessica Hudson, a familiar face around here. With over 16 years of experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Jessica is set to bring fresh energy and insights to the center as it embarks on a new chapter.
The Path to Leadership
Jessica is not just a local hero; she’s a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and a licensed Behavior Analyst right here in North Carolina. She’s had a packed résumé, previously serving as the Director of Clinical Operations at the Autism Center of Excellence up in the bustling Raleigh-Durham area. And before that, she was the Clinical Director at BlueSprig Pediatrics in Greenville and also Co-Director of Staff Development at Carolina Behavioral Specialists. Talk about a powerhouse!
“The Unumb Center is renowned nationally and globally for its impact in the autism community,” Jessica gushed during her appointment announcement. “It’s an honor to lead this organization as we expand our mission to serve individuals across all stages of life. I look forward to building on the strong foundation Lorri, the board, and her team have built.” With that kind of enthusiasm, it’s clear Jessica is ready to roll up her sleeves and get to work!
A Warm Welcome
Speaking of Lorri, the Founder and Board Chair of The Unumb Center, she couldn’t be happier about the appointment. “We are delighted to welcome Jessica back to the Midlands to lead The Unumb Center during this exciting period of growth,” Lorri said with a smile. “Her expertise in clinical operations, combined with her passion for serving individuals with autism and their families, makes her the perfect choice to guide us into the future.” Sounds like a match made in heaven, doesn’t it?
A Brief History
For those who might not be familiar, The Unumb Center has seen a lot of growth since it started back in 2010. Initially just a single program called the Autism Academy of South Carolina, it has blossomed into a multi-faceted establishment that aims to provide incredible ABA therapy while addressing service gaps for the autism community. That’s a big deal!
But wait, there’s more! The Center has recently recognized a pressing need for services that extend beyond childhood. Many adults with autism still require long-term care, and The Unumb Center is stepping up to meet that need head-on. Earlier this year, they snagged a whopping 10-acre property in Lexington, which they’ve affectionately named Unumb Place.
What’s Happening at Unumb Place?
Renovations are already in the works, and get this—Unumb Place will feature six homes on-site to cater to adult programs and residential services. The first residents are expected to move in come spring 2025. “Unumb Place represents a significant milestone for our organization,” said Lorri. “We’re creating a community where individuals with autism can thrive throughout their lives, supported by tailored programs and compassionate care.” It sounds like a beautiful place to call home!
