Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Local Figure, Joe

The warm and welcoming city is currently enveloped in a cloud of sadness as they come to terms with the passing of a truly cherished friend and family member, Joe. Known for his light and positivity, Joe connected with everyone he met, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and adventure.

A Life Lived to the Fullest

Throughout his journey, Joe shared his wonderful charm, marked by a delightful Irish wit and a smile that could brighten the cloudiest of days. His caring nature was evident, whether he was saving worms stranded on hot sidewalks or enjoying cuddles with his beloved Boston Terrier, Lily. Joe exemplified compassion and kindness in everything he did, creating an inviting atmosphere everywhere he went.

Beloved Family Man

Joe leaves behind a loving family that includes his parents, Don and Mary, his sister, Sara Rothell, and her husband Seth. They will deeply miss their precious two nieces, Sutton Therese and Sallie. Additionally, his brother Brad and sister-in-law Ellen are mourning along with their daughters, Kathryn and Margaret. Joe’s other sister, Kelly Pelfrey, her husband Brandon, and their children—Belle, Christian, Katye, Lily, and Ben—also find themselves heartbroken over the loss. The bond he shared with his uncle John Brannigan and cousins, John Francis and Margaret, along with their mother Darcy, stood out as a testament to Joe’s loving nature.

Friends for Life

Joe was not only a devoted family member but also a treasured friend to many throughout his life. From childhood adventures to grown-up gatherings, he cherished his friendships deeply. A proud graduate of Irmo High School, Joe went on to earn a degree from the University of South Carolina in 2016, all while maintaining his enthusiasm for Gamecock athletics.

A Love for Exploration

Joe had a zest for life that was reflected in his love for travel, particularly during annual family vacations to gorgeous spots like Hilton Head Island and Harbourtown. He held a fond memory of a special trip to Ireland that celebrated his Irish heritage. Passionate about nature, Joe loved to visit his favorite spot to watch manatees, where he could soak in the beauty around him while enjoying some hot sauce on his meals.

A Strong Faith

Raised in a nurturing environment grounded in faith, Joe dedicated himself to growing closer to Jesus Christ. He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where his spirituality shone brightly, guiding him through both joyful times and challenges. His family openly shared their indescribable pain following Joe’s departure and they find comfort in the prayers and support from the community.

Farewell Gatherings

The community is coming together to honor Joe’s memory. A Rosary ceremony will take place on March 18 at 6:00 PM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, providing friends and loved ones the chance to come together in support and remembrance. Following the Rosary, attendees are welcome to connect with Joe’s family and share cherished memories.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled for March 19 at 1:30 PM at the same church, followed by a repass that allows the community to gather and celebrate Joe’s vibrant life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, further honoring Joe’s legacy of kindness and faith.
