Irmo, SC – Linda McCorkle, a celebrated educator known for her passion for teaching and her deep commitment to her family, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy that touched the lives of many. She is survived by her devoted husband, Norman A. McCorkle, as well as her son, Christopher M. McCorkle, who resides in Tamassee, SC, and daughter, Kimberly Flaherty, who lives in Lexington, SC.
Linda’s family includes six grandchildren: Brandon Samples, Lakin Luoma, Emily Luoma, Miles Luoma, Caroline McCorkle, and Connor McCorkle. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Jeanette Rozier and Susan Williams, along with multiple nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, J.C. Clark, Jr. and Donald Clark.
Linda demonstrated a strong passion for teaching from an early age. She would return home from school to instruct her younger sister, Jeanette, on the lessons she had learned that day. Linda graduated from St. Paul’s High School, and she furthered her education at East Carolina University, where she earned her degree. Later, she received her Master’s degree from Converse College. Throughout her career, Linda made a significant impact through her work in the Academically Talented Program at Irmo Middle School, where she dedicated herself to shaping the lives of countless students.
Beyond her professional achievements, Linda was a talented seamstress known for creating clothes, draperies, and quilts for her family. Her creative abilities extended to her musical talents as well; she sang in her church choir for decades. Linda’s signature solo, “Sweet Little Jesus Boy,” was a cherished tradition, performed every Christmas Eve until Easter 2025.
The family fondly remembers Linda as a Proverbs 31 woman—faithful, hardworking, and virtuous. Her character and dedication continue to inspire those who knew her.
Visitation for Linda McCorkle is scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home – Dutch Fork Chapel in Irmo, SC. Following this, graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Thyatira Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
Linda McCorkle’s legacy as an educator, family member, and community member will undoubtedly be remembered fondly by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched throughout her lifetime.
