COLUMBIA: Wild Lights Brighten the Holiday Season at Riverbanks Zoo & Garden
Winter is here, and along with it comes a magical experience that promises to light up your holiday season! If you’re in Columbia, you’re in for a treat at the Riverbanks Zoo & Garden. According to a recent ranking by USA Today, Riverbanks Zoo has been awarded the coveted spot of No. 8 in the country for holiday zoo lights. Yes, you read that right! It’s officially one of the top destinations for holiday cheer and festive fun!
Tommy Stringfellow, the president and CEO of Riverbanks Zoo, expressed his excitement about this recognition, stating, “It’s incredible to see our visitors’ enthusiasm for Wild Lights. This honor showcases the impact of Riverbanks’ innovation on our plants, animals, and entire community.” It seems everyone agrees that Wild Lights is not just an event; it’s an experience to be shared with family and friends!
Get Ready for the Wild Lights Experience
The Wild Lights event kicked off on November 15 and will twinkle on until January 12. You can visit between the hours of 5 pm to 9 pm, and the best part? Parking is absolutely free! That means more money for hot chocolate, right?
Prepare to be dazzled by over 60 handcrafted lantern displays that are inspired by nature. From glowing animals to twinkling trees, the creativity on display is simply breathtaking. Plus, for those little ones (and big kids) who just can’t wait to share their holiday wishes, Santa will be available for visits right up until December 23. Just keep in mind, the zoo will close its doors for Christmas on the 24th and 25th.
If you’re planning on attending, buying your tickets online is the way to go! Ticket prices range from $20.99 to $25.99, and purchasing online could save you a bit of cash depending on the night you choose. Be sure to check the Zoo’s website for details!
Food, Fun, and Festivities Await
Let’s not forget about the food! At the event, you can indulge in delicious options from hot chocolate to burgers. It’s the perfect opportunity to warm up while enjoying the festive atmosphere. And if you’re looking for something unique, consider booking a Wild Igloo rental—a cozy, heated igloo that can accommodate six guests for just $250. Wow your friends or family with a private fire pit, a s’mores kit, and bottled water—now that’s a holiday treat!
A Night for Everyone
On December 3rd, the zoo introduced their first-ever sensory-friendly night in collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs. During this special event, music and lights were toned down to create a calming environment for guests who may have sensory sensitivities. Due to the positive reception, there will be another sensory-friendly night on January 9. This is a fantastic way for the zoo to ensure that everyone can enjoy the magic of the season!
As you plan your holiday outings, keep Riverbanks Zoo’s Wild Lights in mind. Not only will you be part of something special and award-winning, but you’ll also partake in making memories that will last a lifetime! Gather your loved ones, grab some tickets, and get ready for a night filled with illuminating fun amid the glorious glow of the holiday season!
Your Holiday Adventure Awaits!
No matter how you choose to spend your evenings this month, be sure to have some fun, soak in the festive spirit, and stop by the Wild Lights at Riverbanks Zoo & Garden for a dazzling experience that celebrates wildlife and the joy of the holidays!
