Richland County, S.C. – A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday when 71-year-old Joseph J. Feda from Irmo was killed in a motor vehicle collision involving a carjacking spree led by 44-year-old Zee Zee Zelazurro. The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Piney Woods Road, where Feda was struck by a vehicle stolen during the incident.

Authorities stated that Zelazurro’s criminal activity began when he carjacked a Mazda 6 near the roundabout at Piney Woods and Piney Grove roads. During the first carjacking, he fired multiple gunshots at the car’s driver, who fortunately managed to escape unharmed. Zelazurro then took control of the vehicle and drove away.

Following the initial carjacking, Zelazurro crashed the stolen Mazda into Feda’s parked Chevrolet Colorado. The collision resulted in Feda’s immediate death at the scene. After this crash, Zelazurro attempted a second carjacking of a Dodge Durango but was unsuccessful. In a further act of desperation, he jumped onto the hood of an Audi A4, forcing the driver to exit the vehicle. Zelazurro then drove the Audi back toward the initial crash scene where Feda was waiting for law enforcement.

While maneuvering the Audi, Zelazurro lost control and overturned the vehicle, ultimately striking Feda. A bystander witnessed Zelazurro crawling out from the wreck with a handgun and intervened by disarming him. Two other victims, including a juvenile, were also hurt in the crash, although their conditions have not been made public.

Zelazurro was initially charged with reckless homicide, first-degree assault, firearm-related offenses, and multiple counts of carjacking. As of Monday, additional charges were added, including attempted robbery, further carjacking offenses, and illegal possession of a weapon due to prior convictions. Meanwhile, Feda has been identified as the deceased by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

After the confrontation, Zelazurro was taken to a hospital for treatment and had not been booked as of Monday. Law enforcement agencies, including the Columbia Police Department, are investigating both the carjackings and the subsequent collisions. However, the sheriff’s department has not disclosed a motive for Zelazurro’s actions nor provided any details about the relationship of the injured victims to the incident.

As of now, further developments in the case are anticipated as investigations continue.
