Lexington County Readies for Empowerment Luncheon
Lexington, SC – Mark your calendars! On October 12, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Lexington Municipal Conference Center will host the annual Still Standing women’s health empowerment luncheon, aiming to tackle a critical issue that affects many women in our community: Domestic Violence.
This year’s event promises to be both enlightening and empowering, featuring a lineup of inspiring speakers. The keynote speaker for the afternoon will be Naida Rutherford, the Richland County Coroner, who will share her expertise on this important topic. Alongside her, an esteemed panel will include Dr. Delores Dacosta from the SC Commission for Minority Affairs, Ashley Olayinka, CEO of The Hive Community Circle, and Stephanie Jacobs, a dedicated Victim Advocate.
Theme of the Luncheon
This year’s theme, “Face the Facts: Domestic Violence Is Beyond Skin Deep,” is intended to shine a light on the often-hidden layers of this pervasive issue. Attendees can expect discussions that dive deep into the realities of domestic violence, equipping women with the knowledge they need to recognize the signs and seek help. The previous luncheons have shone a spotlight on various women’s health issues, from Breast Cancer awareness to Mental Health challenges, and this year is focused on a subject that hits close to home for many.
What to Expect
As is tradition, a highlight of the event will be the exciting Shoe Strut competition, where participants are encouraged to “stand taller, feel stronger, and walk longer.” This fun competition not only brings some flair and excitement to the day but also serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength embodied by women in our communities. It’s a chance to show off not just your style, but your spirit!
