IRMO, S.C. — A driver had to be cut out of a car Thursday after a wreck where Drury Lane meets St. Andrews Road in Irmo, and the rescue work shut down part of the busy corridor for much of the morning.
Irmo Fire District crews took a door off one of the vehicles so they could reach the trapped driver and get that person out. Fire officials did not release the condition of anyone involved.
With two lanes of St. Andrews Road blocked, drivers were sent around the scene through a nearby parking lot. Fire officials told commuters to plan on slowdowns lasting until at least noon.
The fire district also scolded drivers who tried to slip past cones and emergency vehicles at the scene, and asked everyone to obey the posted restrictions and give crews room to work.
