OXFORD, Miss. — South Carolina volleyball lost a tight opening set at Ole Miss on Sunday and then took over, winning the next three by wide margins for a 3-1 victory and its first SEC road win of the fall.
The set scores were 23-25, 25-14, 25-15 and 25-16. The result stopped a three-match losing streak and evened the Gamecocks at 9-9 overall, with their league mark now 2-6. Ole Miss dropped to 8-10 and 2-5.
Momentum swung for good early in the second set, when South Carolina scored the first seven points and never looked back. In the third, the Gamecocks trailed 11-8 before a 14-1 burst, helped along by a string of Rebel errors, put them up 22-12.
Olivia Borgman paced the attack with 18 kills on .325 hitting, and Ava Leahy added 10 kills while committing just one error for a .500 clip. As a team, South Carolina hit .333, its fourth-best mark of the season, and won the block battle 9-6.
Kiana Dinn handed out 22 assists and Sydney Floyd chipped in a season-high 20. The serve was a weapon too, producing six aces, two apiece from Floyd, Dinn and Lilly Gillespie.
Next up is a three-match homestand that begins Friday, Oct. 23, when Missouri visits for a 7 p.m. match.
