IRMO, S.C. — An outdoor retail giant has picked Irmo for its next South Carolina store. Bass Pro Shops said Thursday it will build a 110,000-square-foot Outdoor World on Broad River Road close to Interstate 26.
The site sits about three miles from Lake Murray, and the company is aiming to open the doors in late 2027. It will be the fourth Bass Pro destination store in the state.
The company expects the Irmo store to need more than 120 workers. Hiring details have not been released yet and will be shared once they are ready.
Bass Pro said the building will get a design made specifically for the Columbia market rather than a stock layout. Founder Johnny Morris pointed to the fishing on Lake Murray and the region’s long outdoor tradition as reasons for the choice.
The lake is the area’s best-known landmark. It was formed behind the Dreher Shoals Dam, which was finished in 1930 and is now run by Dominion Energy.
