BATON ROUGE, La. — Ashton Bowers of Auburn kept her ITA Southern Regional singles crown Monday, defeating LSU’s Addison Lanton 7-5, 6-4 in the final at the LSU Tennis Complex to lock an NCAA Singles Championship berth.
Seeded No. 1, she surrendered just a single set across the week. Wins over Mississippi State’s Lauren Seye and Alabama’s Klara Kajabova opened the bracket; she then beat LSU’s Nada Fouad and Ole Miss’ Andrea Nova to reach the final. Monday’s rematch with Lanton echoed last year’s semifinal, also won by Bowers.
Four Auburn players traveled here and all four reached the main draw without a qualifier. Natalie Outcalt, Kaya Moe and Ava Esposito each won early matches before exiting before the final. Bowers and Esposito took a doubles match before falling to LSU next round.
Coach Jordan Szabo praised Bowers’ poise under the top-seed target and said he looks forward to watching her in Athens later this fall. The NCAA Singles Championship is set for Athens, Georgia.
Next for Auburn: ITF W50 Austin, which opens Oct. 19 at the Courtyard Racquet Club.
