Central Carolina Community Foundation Appoints New President/CEO
Georgia Mjartan, an experienced executive with a track record in the public, non-profit, and philanthropic sectors, has been named the next president and CEO of the Central Carolina Community Foundation. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees announced Mjartan’s appointment, which will be effective from July 1, 2024.
Extensive Executive Experience
Mjartan brings a wealth of experience to the Foundation, having served as the executive director of South Carolina First Steps since 2017. This state agency and non-profit organization is known for grantmaking, managing county-level non-profit affiliates, and facilitating partnerships with an extensive network of providers. In addition to this, Mjartan also spearheads the state’s Early Childhood Advisory Council.
In this role, she has led the development of a pioneering technology platform that optimizes eligibility and enrollment in a plethora of early childhood programs. Her formidable expertise will be invaluable to the Central Carolina Community Foundation, an organization with more than $215 million in assets and in excess of 525 charitable funds. The Foundation plays a crucial role in connecting local residents with philanthropic efforts that have a high impact.
Boosting Philanthropy in Carolina
The Central Carolina Community Foundation serves nearly a quarter of the state, covering 11 counties. It powers key initiatives such as Midlands Gives, an online giving initiative, and the One SC Fund, among others. In her new role, Mjartan will facilitate grants that fuel essential work by non-profits, and scholarships that boost educational achievement.
Board chair Cory Manning expressed his delight at Mjartan’s appointment, noting her history of transformative leadership. “Georgia will not only continue that history, but she will redefine what it means to transform an organization,” he said.
A History of Civic Service
In her previous role at South Carolina First Steps, Mjartan achieved significant milestones, including expanding public pre-K statewide, serving 55,000 children annually, and developing nationally recognized innovations. Besides her professional achievements, Mjartan has also illustrated her commitment to thriving communities through her civic service. She served on the national board of Parents as Teachers and led a Girl Scout troop among other initiatives.
Commenting on her appointment, Mjartan expressed her gratitude and excitement about her new role. “Building on decades of generosity and committed leadership, I look forward to the lasting impact Central Carolina Community Foundation will make on our interconnected futures,” she said.
