Born in Kinston, NC, Hines was the daughter of the late Paul Hines, Jr. and Eloise McLamb Hines. She attended Kinston High School, where she not only excelled academically but also participated in the inaugural Junior Miss pageant. Upon her graduation, she was honored with the outstanding senior award for her remarkable achievements.

Continuing her education, Hines earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Meredith College, graduating a year early and with honors. She went on to build a successful career in the realm of Property and Casualty Insurance Technology, where she was known as a marketing executive and industry leader. Throughout her career, she held key positions at reputable companies, including Policy Management Systems, Computer Sciences Corporation, and Duck Creek Technologies. Hines was highly regarded as an exceptional performer by colleagues, clients, and senior management, and she was well-loved as a friend and mentor.

Beyond her professional achievements, Hines was actively engaged in her community, particularly at St. Simon and St. Jude Episcopal Church. She participated in numerous church activities, serving as a lector, choir member, and bell choir participant, thereby enriching the spiritual life of those around her.

A passionate supporter of the University of South Carolina athletics, she was known for her enthusiasm toward Gamecock football. Up until approximately five years ago, Hines held season tickets and was often seen discussing scores and notable players with great enthusiasm. Fitness was another integral aspect of Hines’s life. She maintained a disciplined focus on her health, often enjoying walks in her community. Friends and family described her as sweet, kind, humorous, loyal, and positive, qualities that contributed to her many cherished friendships.

Nancy Hines is survived by her sister, Mary Lynn Lawler; brother-in-law, Jim Lawler; and three nephews: James Kyle, Paul, and Patrick Lawler, along with their families. The family expressed their gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care, specifically thanking nurses Shavon Thompson, Stephanie Miller, and Bria Coardes, along with Dr. Malshundria Prophet and Nurse Practitioner Katie Matzko for their instrumental roles in her care during her illness.

A funeral service will be held on October 1, 2025, at St. Simon and St. Jude Episcopal Church, followed by a reception for family and friends. Hines will be laid to rest on October 5, 2025, at St Andrews on the Sound in Wilmington, NC. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Lay Association of Christian Missionaries, Inc., which supports women and children in Zambia, Africa.
