Exciting Developments Unfold in Cayce: Hattie’s Crossing Celebrated!

Welcome to Cayce, a bustling and vibrant part of Lexington County, where history and community spirit are merging to create something special. Just yesterday, an event to remember was held at 800 Lexington Avenue as the community gathered to officially dedicate Hattie’s Crossing.

A Day to Remember

Hosted by key players in the area, including Lexington School District Two, the Greater CWC Chamber & Visitor’s Center, Cypress Real Estate Partners, and the City of Cayce, this dedication signifies a bright future while honoring the past. A palpable excitement rippled through the crowd, as people shared stories and celebrated their rich heritage.

Among the local leaders present was Tim James, City of Cayce’s Mayor Pro Tem and President of the Greater CWC Chamber of Commerce & Visitor’s Center. With a nostalgic tone, he reflected on his days as a student at Cayce Grammar School, stating, “I am excited to see the history of our beloved school memorialized. This project brings in new families while we cherish what has always been a cornerstone of our community.”

Proudly Honoring An Educator

One of the highlights of the event was the honor given to Hattie Derrenbacher, a dedicated educator whose legacy will live on in the form of Hattie’s Crossing. Dr. Brenda Hafner, the Superintendent of Lexington Two, expressed her pride in this memorial, saying, “It’s a fitting tribute to a woman who devoted her life to educating children and nurturing future leaders in our city.”

Community Transformation in Progress

As part of the revitalization efforts, Mark James from Cypress Real Estate Partners announced that the redevelopment of the historic Cayce Grammar School property is on the horizon. “We are excited to be starting a vibrant new residential neighborhood here in Cayce,” he shared, noting how this initiative aims to blend traditional architectural style with modern construction benefits. “The community will see beautiful single-family homes that pay homage to the school’s legacy.”

Excitement is brewing as residents look forward to seeing new life breathed into the neighborhood. Jim Crosland, Cayce’s Interim City Manager, couldn’t contain his enthusiasm: “This infill development is part of our comprehensive plan. It presents a fantastic opportunity to turn a blighted property into not just housing but a lively community space!”

A Partnership for Progress

The spirit of teamwork was evident throughout the event. Local officials and community members united to acknowledge that partnerships are essential for building and maintaining a vibrant community. With local businesses, schools, and governments working hand in hand, the future looks bright for Cayce and its surrounding neighborhoods, including West Columbia, Springdale, Pine Ridge, and all the way to Lake Murray.

Looking Ahead

With the dedication of Hattie’s Crossing, Cayce not only celebrates a piece of its heart but also implements plans that will lead to sustainable growth, good schools, and stronger communities. As residents eagerly anticipate the transformation ahead, it’s clear that the roots laid by pioneers like Hattie Derrenbacher continue to inspire new generations.

For everyone in the area, this is just the beginning of new adventures in a community that values its past while gleefully looking toward the future. There’s no doubt about it—Cayce is on the path to greatness!
