Columbia Set to Celebrate Frankie Beverly with Tribute Concert Featuring TMF and The Whispers

Columbia Gears Up for a Soulful Tribute: TMF and The Whispers to Honor Frankie Beverly!

Columbia, SC, is buzzing with excitement as the Township Auditorium prepares to host a stellar tribute to the legendary Frankie Beverly! This exciting event will take place on November 22, 2024, featuring the beloved vocal group The Whispers alongside the talented new iteration of the iconic Maze, now known as TMF, which stands for The Music First.

Who Is TMF?

Now, don’t get things twisted—TMF is not just another tribute band cashing in on nostalgia. They are, in spirit and talent, the heart and soul of Maze itself! Following the sad passing of the beloved Frankie Beverly, who left us earlier this year at the age of 77, fans were left wondering if the poignant sounds of classics like “Before I Let Go,” “Joy & Pain,” and “We Are One” would ever be heard live again. But rest assured, this new band is ready to keep the flame alive.

TMF comes packed with seasoned musicians who have been at it for decades. For instance, percussionist Roam Lowry has been with the group since it all began—over a whopping 55 years ago! Key members like keyboardist Vance Taylor and bass player Bear Williams also bring years of experience to the stage, making this band feel like a reunion of old friends.

A Tribute with Heart

“The one thing I love doing most is performing,” Roame shared, reflecting on what it means to be back on the road. “Being with Maze for 55 years, we were always a live performing band, so I absolutely did miss it, and now we have a new chapter.” This new chapter is certainly filled with promise. With a focus on not just honoring Beverly’s legacy, but actively celebrating it, TMF is gearing up to make waves!

The vocals for TMF have been entrusted to Chris Walker, a heavy-hitter for sure. He is no stranger to greatness himself, having worked with artists like R&B star Regina Belle and jazz legend Al Jarreau. “To be in this position to honor him in such an incredible manner… it’s not easy, but I welcome the challenge,” Chris shared.

Get Ready for New Music!

Fans at the Township Auditorium should be prepared for an emotional journey through the classic Maze hits, and they might even hear some new bangers! TMF dropped their debut album earlier this year, titled “The Music First, Vol. 1,” which features catchy singles like “Let Me Love You” and the enticing ballad “Making Love To The Music.” Roame described the album-making experience as “magical” and speaks highly of the camaraderie and brotherhood that blossomed during recording sessions.

“Maze is one of the coldest bands on the planet,” Walker noted, adding to the weight of how significant this tribute is. For him, being in the studio surrounded by the legends was both humbling and exhilarating.

Honoring a Legacy

As they prepare to hit the stage, many fans are curious about how Roame feels performing without Frankie. “He was my best friend,” Roame reflected. “I’ve known him since 1969, and we’re going to continue to share his legacy and his love, as I know he would want us to do.”
