Trump Returns to South Carolina Wednesday to Rally

CLEMSON, S.C. — President Donald Trump is coming back to South Carolina on Wednesday, Oct. 21, for a midterm rally in the Upstate meant to fire up Republican voters as early voting gets underway statewide.

Supporters will gather in Pendleton, just outside Clemson, where the university-owned T. Ed Garrison Arena sits along West Queen Street. The event listing says gates open at 3:30 p.m. and the president should take the stage at 7 p.m.

The Upstate stop follows an August rally in Myrtle Beach, held ahead of the U.S. Senate primary runoff between Sen. Darline Graham and Congressman Ralph Norman.

Graham is now the top Republican name on the ballot. Gov. Henry McMaster appointed her in July to the Senate seat held by her brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died July 11 at age 71. She is seeking a full six-year term against Democrat Dr. Annie Andrews in a contest that some polls show narrowing.

Other Republicans on the statewide ticket are expected to appear. Trump held a telephone rally last Thursday for Graham, Attorney General Alan Wilson, the party nominee for governor, and 1st District congressional candidate Jenny Costa Honeycutt. Wilson faces Democratic state Rep. Jermaine Johnson, and Honeycutt faces Democrat Nancy Lacore.

Democrats have been courting South Carolina too. Several Democrats seen as possible 2028 White House candidates have made stops in the state in recent months to drive turnout, among them Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia, Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona and Gov. Andy Beshear of Kentucky.

Early voting runs through Oct. 31, and the general election is Nov. 3.
