Lexington, S.C. — Lexington Health said it will add two freestanding emergency departments and two urgent care locations in White Knoll and Northeast Columbia, expanding emergency and same-day care in two of the Midlands fastest-growing areas.

In White Knoll, the system plans a 24-room freestanding emergency department next to Lexington Family Practice White Knoll near Platt Springs Road and South Lake Drive, plus a nearby urgent care. Both are expected to open in spring 2028.

In Northeast Columbia, crews are converting the existing urgent care at Lexington Health Northeast near Clemson Road and Longtown Road into a 24-room emergency department expected by spring 2027. Urgent care will move less than three miles to Lexington Health Blythewood.

Officials said the projects should ease wait times at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia and at existing urgent care sites, connect more patients to primary care close to home, and shorten EMS transport times so ambulance crews return to service faster.

Lexington Health describes itself as the only local independent health system in the Midlands and already operates urgent care in Cayce, Chapin, Lexington, Irmo and northeast Columbia alongside its 607-bed West Columbia hospital.
