# Lexington Health Plans White Knoll Emergency Department

LEXINGTON, S.C. — Lexington Health is adding two freestanding emergency departments and two urgent care locations in White Knoll and Northeast Columbia, citing rapid population growth in both parts of the Midlands.

In White Knoll, the health system plans a new 24-room freestanding emergency department next to Lexington Family Practice White Knoll on Brevard Parkway, along with a new urgent care center nearby. Both are expected to open in spring 2028.

In Northeast Columbia, work has begun to convert the existing urgent care at Lexington Health Northeast into a 24-room emergency department, expected to open by spring 2027. Urgent care services there will move to Lexington Health Blythewood, less than three miles away, once the conversion is complete.

Lexington Health says the four sites should ease wait times at the Lexington Medical Center emergency department and shorten ambulance transport times, getting crews back on the road faster.

The system includes more than 60 physician practices, more than 9,000 health care professionals and Lexington Medical Center, a 607-bed teaching hospital in West Columbia.
