IRMO, S.C. — HUSH No More will hold its 8th Annual 5K Walk, Roll & Run Against Domestic Violence on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at Moore Park, 7473 Church St. in Irmo.
Donations go towards building the HUSH No More Safe Haven, a permanent space for healing, resources and restoration for survivors and their families. The group is led by Dr. Vanessa Guyton, who has said funding for survivors is hard to find in South Carolina.
The walk comes as the state continues to rank in the top ten for deadly domestic violence. A 2026 report from the South Carolina Attorney General found that in 2025, there were a total of 40 people murdered by a household member. Of those 40 people, 30 were women, or 75 percent.
Twenty-one counties reported one or more domestic homicides for 2025, out of the state’s 46. In 70 percent of the cases, a gunshot wound was listed as the primary cause of death.
A separate study by the Violence Policy Center found that in 2023, South Carolina’s rate of females killed by males was 1.8 per 100,000, compared to the national rate of 1.4. A total of 51 female victims were killed by males in the state that year. South Carolina was among the 10 states with the highest rates for 23 out of the past 25 years from 1996 to 2020.
People in Lexington County who need help can reach Sistercare, which serves the county, through its 24-hour crisis line at (803) 765-9428.
