IRMO, S.C. — A longtime internal medicine practice in Irmo, S.C., will become part of Prisma Health on Nov. 1, the health system and the practice announced this week.

South Carolina Internal Medicine, at 7182 Woodrow St., has treated Midlands patients for more than 40 years. The practice offers internal medicine, diagnostic testing, medical weight loss and sleep services. Under the deal it will take a new name, Prisma Health South Carolina Internal Medicine Associates-Irmo.

Patients should not see a change in who treats them. The practice’s providers and care team are staying in place through the transition, according to the announcement. The practice is led by physicians Joseph Gabriel, Surb Guram and Benjamin Levinson.

Leaders on both sides said the move is meant to widen access to primary and specialty care in the Midlands. Guram said joining the state’s largest health network will give patients access to more clinicians and a broader set of services. Jonathan Gleason, Prisma Health’s executive vice president and chief clinical officer, said the practice has built trust through team-based care and that the system plans to build on that.

Patients with questions about appointments, records or insurance during the switch can contact the Woodrow Street office directly.
