## University of South Carolina Board of Trustees Convenes

The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees met on Thursday, September 24. During the meeting, trustees acknowledged new leadership appointments and approved several key measures.

Among the new appointments, Dr. Jamie Dwyer was recognized as the new dean of the Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. School of Medicine. Additionally, Christopher Culbertson joined the university as dean of the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. The board also appointed Liwu Li as an inaugural chairholder to one of two newly established Kay and C. Edward Floyd, M.D. Distinguished Professorships.

Trustees approved an amendment to the university’s contract with Open AI. This amendment is intended to accommodate heavy faculty research workloads utilizing ChatGPT and will provide access to more AI credits for other users, including students, faculty, and staff. The University of South Carolina was the first university in South Carolina to offer campuswide access to ChatGPT free of charge.

In athletic matters, the Department of Athletics received an administrative amendment to the employment agreement for head men’s basketball coach Lamont Paris.
