## Augusta University to Launch New Public Health Bachelor’s Program

Augusta University is introducing a Bachelor of Science in Public Health program, set to begin in the Fall of 2027. This new degree aims to equip students with the skills to address health challenges within the Augusta community and beyond.

Teresa Waters, Dean of Augusta University’s School of Public Health, noted that while the school has offered graduate programs for three years, the goal was always to establish an undergraduate program to complement them. The inaugural class is expected to have approximately 25 students, with projections for growth to 200-300 students within five years and over 500 students in ten years.

The program is intended to help tackle local health issues, including high rates of diabetes, substance use disorder, and overdoses. The Department of Labor anticipates a roughly 20% increase in job opportunities in the CSRA for graduates of such programs.

Theophilus Gabriel, a second-year Ph.D. student in applied health sciences, expressed his appreciation for faculty support and looks forward to mentoring future undergraduate students in the program. The School of Public Health is actively seeking partnerships with organizations to provide students with practical, applied learning experiences that impact health.
