# Amare Adams aims for breakout sophomore season

Clemson defensive tackle Amare Adams is preparing for a significant role in his sophomore season, with opportunities rising due to changes in the team’s defensive line. Adams, a five-star recruit from the 2025 class, is looking to make a substantial impact after an injury lingered into the spring.

Adams expressed gratitude for being back on the field, noting that having the game taken away made him appreciate it more. He is focused on working with his teammates and contributing to the team’s success.

Under defensive coordinator Tom Allen, in his second season, Clemson aims to improve its defense after a challenging 2025 season, which saw issues with busted coverages, an inability to stop the run, and missed assignments. The team finished with its worst record since the 2010 season. Adams emphasized a windshield mentality, focusing on the future and bringing his best to the field.

Head coach Dabo Swinney recently commented that no single player has emerged as an alpha in the defensive tackles room during fall camp. However, Adams is considered a candidate to step up and become an underrated piece of the defense. Adams believes that all players are improving with each practice, driven by a desire to avoid complacency and ensure everyone is working hard.

Clemson also added several transfers to the defensive front, including Markus Strong, Kourtney Kelly, DeVarrick Woods, and Andy Burburija. Adams has been learning from these new players, both in terms of their play and their leadership. As the Tigers prepare for their opening week game against LSU, Adams is expected to play a key role in stopping the run and pressuring quarterback Sam Leavitt. He is trusting his journey and believes he has the capability to be a game-wrecker if given the opportunity.
